Privacy Policy
The short version: Guilt Trip has no account, no server, and no advertising or analytics partners. Your Screen Time selections, usage data, and Health data are read and used on your own device to run the app, and are never sent anywhere — not to us, not to anyone else.
01 What Guilt Trip is
Guilt Trip is a Screen Time coaching app for iPhone and iPad. It helps you set a daily allowance for the apps and websites you choose, rewards healthy habits with bonus time, and applies short cooldowns (“pit stops”) when you use them for too long. This policy explains what the app does with your information to do that job, because that’s the only thing it does with it.
02 Screen Time and Family Controls data
When you choose apps, categories, or websites to manage, Apple’s Family Controls framework hands Guilt Trip opaque tokens — not the names of your apps. Guilt Trip cannot see which apps you’ve picked; it can only ask iOS to track and, when needed, block those tokens.
Your actual usage — how long you spent in which app, at what time — is measured and displayed by Apple’s own Screen Time report, which runs in a separate, sandboxed process that Apple does not allow any app to export data from. Guilt Trip’s own code never receives your raw usage history. What it does receive, through a private on-device storage area shared only between Guilt Trip and its own extensions, are coarse, derived signals: whether a time threshold was crossed, whether a block is currently active, and similar enforcement state. None of this leaves your device.
03 Health data
If you choose to connect Apple Health, Guilt Trip reads only the lifestyle categories you explicitly select — sleep, steps, exercise time, workouts, stand time, distance, active energy, and your Activity ring goals — to calculate bonus minutes and show your trends. Guilt Trip never requests clinical data such as heart rate or blood pressure, and never writes anything back to Health. Sharing Health data is optional, and not sharing it never reduces your base allowance.
Health data is used entirely on your device to run the app’s reward calculations. It is not transmitted, sold, or shared with any third party, including us.
04 Parent PIN and chores
If you set a parent PIN to lock settings and manage chores, it’s stored only in your device’s Keychain as a salted, one-way hash — Guilt Trip itself never keeps the PIN you typed, and it never leaves your device. A one-time recovery code is shown to you once at setup; store it somewhere safe, because Guilt Trip has no way to recover a lost PIN on your behalf.
05 Purchases
Guilt Trip Pro is sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. Apple processes the payment and tells Guilt Trip only whether you’re currently entitled to Pro — never your card details, billing address, or other payment information. See Apple’s own privacy policy for how the App Store handles payment data.
06 Notifications and widgets
Guilt Trip’s reminders and warnings are scheduled locally on your device using Apple’s notification framework. There is no push notification server, and nothing about your usage is sent to one. Home Screen widgets and Live Activities read the same local, on-device enforcement snapshot described in Section 2 — never your exact usage.
07 Feedback you choose to send
The feedback option in the app opens your own Mail app with a message addressed to JShaffer02@gmail.com. It deliberately leaves out your profile, Health, and Screen Time data and your device identifiers — only your own typed message and the app version are included. Sending feedback is entirely your choice, and nothing is sent unless you tap send yourself. If you email us, we use your message and address only to reply.
08 This website
guilt-trip.app is a static website hosted on Google’s Firebase Hosting. It uses no cookies, analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts, and loads no third-party fonts or content. Like any web host, Firebase may process your IP address and basic browser information to deliver the pages and protect against abuse, under Google’s privacy policy. We don’t receive or use that information to identify you.
09 What we don’t do
- No account or sign-in, and no first-party server that stores your data.
- No advertising networks, and no third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone.
- We do not use your data to build an advertising profile, on or off Guilt Trip.
10 Children’s privacy
Guilt Trip is designed to be set up by the device owner — often a parent managing their own or a child’s device. It has no sign-in and does not collect personal information from anyone, adult or child, on a server, because it doesn’t operate one. “Parental Controls” in the app refers to a local PIN lock, chores and rewards on the device itself, not a separate online children’s account or profile.
11 Your choices
You can disconnect Health access, remove managed apps, turn off the parent PIN, or delete Guilt Trip at any time from iOS Settings or the app itself. Because nothing is stored on a server, deleting the app removes its local data from your device (App Store purchase history is retained by Apple, separately, as with any app).
12 Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll update the dates above and, for significant changes, call it out in the app’s release notes.
